    Default Sandhill Crane - Bosque

Hi all, sorry for my lapse of presence here recently. I am having some serious back (spine) problems and have a challenge sitting in my computer chair. Thanks to modern chemistry, I am able to spend a bit of time in it so I will post when I can. However, my ramblings may be even more incoherent than usual.

Here is a sandhill crane from my trip to Bosque (the one that put my back over the edge!). Just after sunrise, first direct light hitting the birds so we could go back to ISO 400.

    1D4, EF400mm f/5.6L
    Manual mode, f/5.6@1/1250 ISO 400 WB 5100K
AI Servo autofocus, hand-held no flash

Perfect placement, pose, and light angle. And no sticks in the water! Did you have to do much cleaning, or did the refuge disc the bottom better than usual? Get well!

Thanks Alan! The water was pretty clean this year and I only cleaned up a few feathers in the water. The whole refuge was nicely groomed and maintained and was looking great for the crane festival week.

Great catch in wonderful form. That bird is focused on where it is going....I really like the sharpness of the feathers vs the background. Hope your back is better soon!

Sorry to hear about your back problems, Kerry. Lovely capture you have here. Nice light and flight pose.

Happy New Year to you, and I hope 2013 brings you a healthy back so you can get out there and do some photography!!!

That's some pretty sweet light on the Crane Kerry, I would have like it to be larger in-frame so that we can see some more detail.

Hope the back is on the mend mate.

    Richard
