Cannon 7D, 1/1000 sec, 500mm, f 4.0 I've been working at trying to get a handle on post processing using Lightroom and Photoshop following the short video on Doug Browns website. Image cropped about 15%, NIK Viveza and Dfine ran on image. Still a bit uncertain on appropriate way to save the image file as a psd with the various layers or merge the layers and then save. I've calibrated my monitor using Spyder 4. Comments appreciated...thanks

Sweet bird and BKGR. IQ looks great. I like the crop too and the way that the bird is positioned against the lighter parts of the BKGR. Saving as layered PDFs or as TIFFs is largely a matter of choice. I flatten everything and save as TIFFs. Many folks who make lots of prints save as layered PSDs. As far as I know there is no practical difference at present.

Yikes. Forgot: I like the view of the bird's ventral surface so the fact that the head is turned away from us does not slay me as it usually would :).

I like the way the BG looks clean, although, it a overwhelming to me. gives a false "too dark" feel to the image even though you did well on the exposure.

The pose and the head turn is nice. The eye is nicely separated from the dark patch around it. enhancing the catchlight would further accentuate the eye.

Also another round of mild sharpening?

I like the perch also. some character in it .

What ISO was this shot at? what mode? what metering mode?

When properly exposing for the bright whites on the breast the dark background will appear about 2 stops darker than it actually was. I like the effect here.

I like the dark background and the bird's posture. It looks a little soft to me.

Lovely bird, BG & colors but looks as though it needs another round of sharpening.
