This is a case where, at least for me, the off-angle lighting makes the image more dramatic. Shot shortly before sunset on Bowman's Beach, Sanibel, last month. This also works as a vertical, but I liked the context and comp in this almost-full-frame version. C&C always appreciated.

I like the wing position, fanned tail and vertical crop. I would clone out the three white spots on the left edge of the frame just above head height (vertical version). Nice image Bill.

    Bill,

I prefer the vertical crop. At least to my eye, the way the wings are, it looks better to me. Great exposure control as well!

Very sweet. Love the side-lighting and the warm light. I much prefer the original post as I like the wave. Sharp too. Is the image in Pane 1 full frame? And of course love the wing position.

Thanks Artie. The Pane 1 image is 94% of full-width. I lost some due to some needed rotation.

Thanks Jim. I hadn't noticed the three spots. They didn't jump out at me in the horizontal version, but they do detract in the vertical. Thanks for pointing them out.

Great wing position and nice fanned tail captured, Bill. It is amazing how long wings these guys have. I like the original much better as far as composition goes.

Thanks Bill. No wonder the image quality looked so good. We will be sharing a really cool tip soon on the blog for cropping after rotation without losing anything all around. It usually works quite well.

Thanks Artie. I look forward to seeing it. On occasion when rotating in PS, I will "undo" the crop that PS imposes after rotation, and use the clone tool to fill in around the edges. It works nicely on some images with simple backgrounds, but not always.

The trick is great in that you do not have to do any cloning (other than minor clean-up) after the fact and then only with textured backgrounds... It is pretty fast and pretty easy. As usual, learned it from someone on an IPT.

Excellent shot, some of the whites are just a tad bright perhaps (? personal taste I guess), I like the first shot in preference to the vertical cop, it makes for a more complete/interesting image.

Gorgeous OP, much prefer that vs the vertical presentation. I like the loose composition, size of the
subject in the frame, wave action, and sweet sweet light quality.

Thanks everyone. Although I favor the OP, I'm glad to see a variety of opinion on the comp.
