Hi guys - I had a quick weekend break to spend Christmas with the family but am back in the action.

This is a recently processed monochrome. I might have to do this over as I am due for a monitor calibration after upgrading to Win7 and LR4......should have the Spyder back next week to sort that out.
A Kalahari male lion striding through his territory, taking in scents and marking as he goes. Taken in February of this year on an overcast morning.

Hi Morkel - I like the warmer tones of this conversion but I find the glow/halo around the lion to be unnatural and strong, particulary along the back and along the top of the face. I wonder if it might also be a slight sharpening halo as there seems to be one on some of the sharper plants too. I also wish for slightly more of a head turn towards you but it does have a sort of pensive quality to it.

    Happy New Year and TFS,
    Rachel

Thanks Rachel, I was hoping to hear if anyone saw halos as they're not really apparent on my screen which just accentuates that I need to calibrate again ASAP

Also seeing the light halos. I like the comp and the dark bands of clouds. Okay with the HA, as Rachel noted it has a pensive quality. Did he give you one with a look before walking off?
P.S. Needed a fly swatter for this one.

Nicely presented Morkel. I like how the lion is set off so well in the frame - almost a 3D look. On the right; I would crop off enough to remove the "V" shaped bush branch at the right edge of the frame.

Hi Morkel, I think this is one of your best 'toned' images, thy all work well, giving excellent detail & tone and being overcast has certainly helped. The composition I'm fine with, just would have preferred the lion not to be looking away.

    Hi Morkel
    Lovely image...
I quite like the head angle of lion. I would get rid of fly but thats me! Agree about Halo ,also would consider Roberts crop. When u do calibrate screen just check sky for banding and a slight color cast ,and blown whites. Agree with Steve about toning.

    look forward to your repost.

    Hi Morkel

besides the halo ------- this one is working really , i mean really nice for me.

Like the warmer tones and the stronger contrast in the main areas.

Thanks guys! Haven't had time to do the rework yet, it'll have to wait until the end of January as I've got some safari-related travels ahead
