Here is another of my attempts to photograph small birds in flight.

Taken in my back garden with natural light. On this particular morning, the light on the Robin was a little dappled compared to the background. I am hoping for a little more light on the Robin when I next give this project a try.

    C&C most welcome.

I agree with you for wanting more light on the subject as that would have made quite a difference, but I love the translucence of the flight and tail feathers. Good comp, and I like the arching shape of the wings.

excellent dynamic pose and wing position, light angle not ideal but the action is great

Love the wing spread and the lovely scalloped edges.
    Unusual BG color.
I see a bit of motion blur in the head as well.
Looking forward to the one with more light!

I just like how unusual and unique this is.
I can see why you would post it, I would also.
A Robin like none we see here. Nice work.

Austin, while not the light you would want for a classic shot, I actually love this. More light on the bird, whether via flash or a different ambient scenario, would change the feel. For me, the light background and darker bird really accentuate the feeling of flight. I would be happy to have this image, which is all about the wings and the shape of the bird, in my portfolio. Of course, in future attempts I would also go for some more traditional flight shots but this is definitely a keeper for me.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. Much appreciated. Light is incredibly limited here at the moment so no chance to have another go at this project.

    Superb action shot.

I know how difficult it is to get a decent shot of these little buggers even in a normal sitting pose. Its like they choose a spot away from light.

the wingspread you got here is really nice. not the ideal angle of presentation but I would be on 7th heaven if it were mine (I tried so much for such a shot during my stay in UK but didnt get once decent picture). even 1/4000 couldnt freeze the wingtips? good feather details in the given condition (Heck you also got details in the outstretched feathers overlapping). I see slight noise in lower feathers and tail, but it could just be me.

Congratulations on this difficult shot. I hope you get to better this soon.

For me this is a keeper all day long. First of all, it's unique which puts it a cut above the rest. I love the pose and the transparency of the wings. You have an awesome BG and I can see very fine feather details in the tail. The HA is awesome. Frankly, the fact that the light is not optimal, does not bother me. There might be a tiny bit of motion blur in the head but aside from that, this image pretty much rocks!!!

Great shot Austin, well done, I can appreciate the amount of work going into the shot and especially with the light we are having. I think you have done a great job, I can see this popping up at LCPU comps!
