This guy was sunning himself to glory . Was perched for almost 5 hrs . The 1200 mm does allow for some great details on the bird to be captured .

Camera : Canon 1D Mk III
    Lens : Canon 600mm f4 IS , 2X TC
    Aperture : f8
    Shutters : 1/500
    ISO : 640 .

Season's Greetings to all BPNers and your loved ones .

    Cheers,
    Rakesh

Very nice details indeed Rakesh. I do wish that the beak wasn't behind one of the wings, but you did manage to pull out some great detail and colors.

Nice preening pose, beautiful details, Rakesh. Composition looks good but you could have had more canvas on the left of the frame for better balance of the positive and negative space.

I'm really very impressed with the detail still showing at such extreme focal length, the sheen and colors are extra nice, lovely exposure.....but yes agree with Miguel regarding the beak tip behind the wing

Unfortunately Rakesh your Darter shot is almost an exact copy of all the other Darter shots we've seen over the years, to me what would have made it stand out from the crowd just that little bit would have been to include some of the environment the bird lives in.

Having said that I think you've done well with the 2X extender on the MK III. I also like the subtle lighting on the water bird because even though the subject is well defined the back gound tends to be a perfect match by enhancing the definition rather than putting it over the top.

I like this shot Rakesh. It shows great detail in the feathers, and has a wonderful BG. If this is a crop, I think it's a bit tight at left, right, and bottom, and too loose at the top. And other than the fact that the tip of the beak is missing, this is a stunning image with great IQ.
