I like the reflection. I would probably crop some of the bottom and right side of the image, although in some ways it works well enough as it is; reflections add an interesting variable to the composition equation. The lighting angle on him seems to be a little bit too much from the rear. I also might clone the rubbish off the surface of the water, and, using a mask, selectively increase the contrast of the water.

    Sanjeev,

I agree with Chris's comments especially the bottom of the frame, too much space and the subject is too centered. The opportunity here is subject placement, clean up water and add more punch maybe leveraging a filter giving it more value in the frame. In this pic the subject is interesting but the water is a large part too, might play with it using NIK or photo filters - look for opportunities to make the picture stand out! Look beyond bird in the water, tell us a story,..its beauty, the season, the habitat!

Keep em coming and nice job with the 500, was this HH?

I agree with Chris and Jeff about cropping and cleaning up the water. I like the low angle and the general pattern on the water. Nice job on the exposure, you've got detail on the neck and kept the whites. Coots are tough!

Here's a quick RP on your coot picture, Sanjeev. What I feel hurt the image the most were the white specks in the water, and the photo was taken in pretty harsh light. While it's possible to learn a number of techniques to clean up images, I personally prefer going back out in the field and in this case, looking for cleaner water.
