Very nice lighting and close up.
You all made nice use of that perch!
It works for all these birds, unique setting for the woodpecker.

Hi Gail. Sweet shot of this little Downy. She stands out nicely against the dark bg, and I like the colors in the perch.

    A Merry Christmas to you.

I learned alot from photographing next to you. I had the same image and deleted it because I wasn't seeing the possibility of composition with him on the end of that perch. You put this together so nicely and turned it into a pleasing photograph. Only slight changes I might consider is a more nr on the dark bg and a bit more detail in the white head feathers. (could be Mr. Jpeg at work).

Nice looking shot Gail. I like the bird against the dark BG, sticks out of it nicely. Exposed well and nice detail. I agree with Grace on working the whites on the head and on the tail a little. Good job.

Went out this morning and saw one of these Downeys for the first time ever. He was calling and doing some kind of display. Think I got a few good ones of him.
Might sound stupid but is it only the male that gets the red on the head or are they immature without the red? The one this morning had a red head.

Love the bird, the perch, the BKGR, and especially the bird's posture. Love the visible foot too. The white stuff on the perch right below the bird is a bit distracting. It would be easy to cover with a Quick Mask. Whites on the head and especially the tail are very bright, likely from the dark BKGR.

Thanks and ditto on the holiday good wishes.

Really nice bird and perch. Details on the bird are sweet and I like the darker BG. No one else has mentioned it but I keep going back to the area where the perch meets the left side of the frame. It looks like something else is coming off the perch at a 45 degree angle, possible something in the BG??? I guess it doesn't bother anyone else but I thought I would mention it as the rest of the BG is so clean. Have a great holiday!

Hi Gail, love your comp, and you have captured a lovely pose and HA. Exposure looks good, sharp, and the smooth BG looks great.

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas too. Not too much wine now.
