Technically not the best of images but wanted to share with you the incredible IS on the 500 II. I could hand hold it down to 1/20th of a second. It was almost dark and the curator flashed some light on a fruit bat hanging in its den and I could capture this image. PP in DPP and PS with NR applied to the BG using noiseware pro.
    Camera Canon EOS 7D
    Exposure 0.05 sec (1/20)
    Aperture f/4.0
    Focal Length 500 mm
    ISO Speed 6400
    Exposure Bias 0 EV

    Hey Sanjeev,
I use that ISO for my night stuff all the time! Given the specs....pretty amazing. I am wanting a bit more sharpness or DOF....my guess would be SS.....but that is still impressive and shows what DSLr's can really do!

Very impressive at that shutter speed. And my 7D does not look that good at 640, know some of you guys does, but not mine.

Hi Sanjeev - looks like you are really enjoying experimenting with your new lens. It would be very rare for me to try to push my 7D to that high an ISO. With the 7D I really try to keep my ISO at 800 or below for the best results.

Hi Sanjeev I like the concept & comp, but it really does need more DOF, plus if this is HH, then I do feel that whilst experimenting with your new lens I really would look to using some form of kit to steady the gear, it needs it! I also think some camera shake has also crept in, it just needs a fraction, but...

I would look to taking down some of the light on the wing as it's reflected from the torch and cracking up some more USM, as more detail will come out, trust me, I will show you.

Great to see you experimenting, the more practice the better you will become, that leaves just some tweaking in PP and you will be all set.

Thanks everyone. Steve the image you sent does show how I can improve on it. Agree on the DOF. I am ordering the new Wimberley Sidemount head WH 200 S is the model. It should make things easier. Yeah, I am enjoying my new lens and experimenting a lot. Its an amazing piece of glass.
    Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.
