There was streak of muddy area right at the head going across the whole canvas, similar to what you see at the legs.
I cloned out that streak, to give the bird a better chance to shine.
    Thanks for looking.

Very nice timing on the capture! I don't get to see these guys take off very often, and you photographed it well. I like the fully extended wing tips and the outstretched neck. The left foot kick is an added bonus. Nicely done!

Great shot Karl! I love the straight-on angle, perfect wing position, feet in action, good detail and smooth background.

    Hi Karl,

Beautiful bird. Nice light angle to the sun over your rigth shoulder, giving great feather detail. Great action. The only thing I don't like is the clutter of all the reeds in the water, especially the one slightly OOF reed at the bird's right foot. Still an excellent image. Pretty much ideal light, and angles to the light (phase angle) combined with body angle and head angle. With the light over your right shoulder, the tips of the feathers cast tiny shadows giving that wonderful feather detail. Well done.

When I was at Bosque a few weeks ago, I tried for the birds taking off to the south (as in my recent postings) where the water was cleaner and there was more water behind the birds for a pleasing background. But the sunrise light was not as good as when they went north (as above) and most of the time the birds were taking off to the north. Most of the time, the reeds did not bother me. But I have seen judges mick images with OOF foreground objects. OOF foreground objects don't bother me except if they protrude into a key part of the image. In this case, I would sharpen the reed so it was not so out of focus (it is pretty close to focus so should sharpen up some). I would sharpen up some of the splashing water too.

    Thanks, Roger.
It makes a lot of sense what you said about sharpening. I routinly sharpen the bird only and odd times I even forget to include the perch
I sharpened the splash and the vegetation around the feet.

Very attractive light, I think maybe just a tad off the bottom?
The repost with the sharpened water looks very good.

Lovely bird. Light is also warm and the bird's pose is good.

Good thing that you enhance the bird by cloning the streak.

Magnificent image of crane in wonderful light.Tack sharp with lovely details and colors.
Love the wing position, nice pose with raised foot and flash of water.I have taken the privilege to modified it little bit.
Added some canvas on RHS and cropped at the bottom.Sorry for the slight cut in your signature.I hope you like it.
