    Default Northern Shovelor

A recent shovelor image. Taken at mid-day , the worst time of day to try and expose for these ducks. I used Nik and also burned in some of the whites in Photoship. We were low, but not super low, so I smoothed out some of the water, again using Nik. Removed some highlights from the bill.

    Hi Grace,
I really like your crop. Good PP as well with regards to the whites.
I like the trailing water drops from the bill.
Is Photoship a new method of travel? You and I both misspelled " shoveler". Time for ornithology/ grammar classes!!

Very nice classic pose of a winter shoveler. The drops of water are a nice addition. You handled the colors nicely, and getting a bit of green sheen, in spite of the time of day.

A mid day in December is clearly providing some very nice light quality...gotta love the low angled winter light.
Image looks wonderful. Love all the plumage detail and the water dripping off the bill is the bow on the wrapping paper so to speak.
    Nice crop too!

Perfect comp, awesome exposure, and the processing is tasteful. Love that subtle head turn towards us! A freshly plumage breeding individual would be great...but any such opportunity to photograph shovelers should not be passed!

Grace you did a fine job of capturing and then processing the image. With your techniques, you can't tell that this was shot in bad light. Looks like you know how to handle the 2x on the 500mm!

Nice image, Grace. Nice not super low angle, low enough I would say. Nice head turn excellent colurs and patter, and great PP work.

Nice shot again of a better looking drake than last time. Next post needs to be a full blown breeding drake Even in the harsher light everything still looks good tech wise. Like the comp and the trailing water from the bill. Nice work.

Thanks everyone. Gail, I am a notoriously poor speller and if spell check fails me, I'm done. David, I wish! Will keep working on it.

Nice image! Any shovelers that I have found are very skittish and won't let me close at all.
