Default Common Redpoll Hanging By A Thread.

When I setup this perch for the redpolls I did not bother trimming this particular thread as it was well away from being a distraction for other perching spots I had in mind. Little did I know that a redpoll would actually go on and cling to it! I only had time to take one frame before it moved onto the feeder. It was also the one and only time a bird hung out on that piece

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for composition (~70% FF), a brighter streak in the BG has been smoothed out via clone tool.

Nice hanging in there pose captured, Daniel. Love the nice background. The bird looks a little soft on the head.
I wish for a little more ligth showing in the eye but probably is not possible in a pose like this.

I am surpised the very thin perch held the weight of the bird. Very cool shot and an very different shooting angle. I like the dark BG. The face looks sharp but would add another round of sharpening to it, nice one Daniel.

Great image showing the dexterity of the species. I also like the field guide view of the undertail streaking.
Did you enhance the pupil on this one? I ask, because you did not say, but on this particular image, the
pupil does look a bit enhanced...

Love it, great angle exposure and detail, the perch and the background just set the redpoll of perfectly.

Thanks guys! Should have mentioned that yes, I did burn the pupil as it was glazed over and hazy-looking due to reflections.

A dainty perch for a dainty bird.
Really like the BG as well Daniel. My favorite part is the composition.
Eye looks good and sharpness looks good but would do another round.. There is something about redpoll faces that make a sharp image look soft sometimes-? feather type

If you rotate this 90degrees CCW it will look like he is doing pull-ups...but I think he needs to works on those biceps...Anyway nice detail in the bird, nice BG and perch. Wish I could see both eyes but you made the best of what you had. Overall very nice! TFS

What a neat image Daniel! I would have loved to see more from this series, but you mention you only got one snap before he flew off. Sure glad you left that branch there for him to land on!
