Cannon 1D Mrk IV, 500 mm + 1.4x, ISO 200, f5.6, 2000 sec. Minor crop, low sharpening. Bait populations were very high this year affording many opportunities to capture feeding behaviors.

Very well timed Steve capturing the egret with the fish and portrayed against a nice soft BG.
Looks like you had some harsh lighting to contend with.

Looks like a masking artifact on the "shoulder" of the bird -- looks like you significantly darkened the background or lightened a dark bird?

Excellent image.Nice moment captured.I like fish and it's eye.Very nice details in whites.Agree with John about harsh light.Beautiful BG too.
Shadow on bird behind the neck is due to light and I do not think it's masking or PP effect. Well done.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Harsh light did not help you here, but I love that we seeboth the egret and the fish's eyes. I also like thetiming with the open bill. The streaking in the upper part of the comp is a bit distracting...sometimes just moving a bit up or down or left or right can make a difference (if possible of course). Glad you got many opportunities...waders are always fun to follow around and photograph!
