    Default Orange-throated Longclaw

Another capture from my morning driving through the nature reserve close to my house. As I havent seen one of these guys for a while, I will have to do with the perch ( a road direction sign ) but the early light and BG makes it up. I wanted to crop tighter below, but felt that I needed some space to make the comp work.

Excellent capture with good IQ. I like the raised foot with a wicked looking rear claw -- what does the bird use this for? Impaling pray or climbing?
I also like the lighting and the background. Well done

Thanks Don. I cant find any reference for the use of the characteristic long claw. These guys feed on the ground and eat insects, so cant see them trying to use the claw to kill their prey. When perched, I have seen how handy they can wrap that claw around a perch.

Arash, thanks for your feedback too.

Another new species for me Stuart and what a stunning looking bird. Excellent feather detail, beautiful colouring and the raised foot shows off those extra long toes and talons.
The perch looks like a nice textured rock Stuart. (Good looking road sign)! Is the beautiful warm lighting from a late afternoon sun?

I think the comp is perfect, brilliant detail particular in those claws, complimentary background color as well.....this is exceptionally well done in my books Stuart, and I cant think of any way to improve

Beautiful smooth and complimenting backgroud, excellent pose, head turn and the raised foot adds a lot of interest.
(Sharp and long talons he has)
Great image Stuart, the perch doesn't bother me at all.

stunning light, angle and detail here Stu
I find the bird perhaps just borderline oversharpened?

Awesome pose and it really showcases the long claw wonderfully.
The perch is ambigious enough to be a number of things, and I would not have
guessed that it was a road sign if you had not mentioned it. The light quality
is top notch. Beautiful image sir.

Sweet light Stuart, and a great image to show off why the bird is called a long claw.

Thanks John. This was captured early morning - 6.34am to be precise. The light gets fairly harsh after 8.00am at this time of year, so its best to be back home having breakfast by then. Im fortunate that this location is only a half hour's drive from my house.

Great capture Stuart. The perch does not bother me. For me the pose , raised foot , the HA , clean bg and sharpness make this image. Not easy to capture this bird well , since the bg is often problematic. Well done !

This is wonderful Stuart! The walking pose along with a perfect HA is just too sweet. I thought the perch was aq rock, and even with your mentioning of it being a sign I still can't see it being any other thing. Amazing light, and beautiful BG. I had the same impression as Morkel in regards to the sharpening, but no one else has mentioned it...

One of my favrites of yours!!

Wonderful image! I agree with all of the above. As so many have commented on the light and feather detail, it is due to the pretty much perfect phase angle: the sun is about 20 degrees to the left.

Thank you all so much for the feedback.

Oversharpening noted. Maybe a touch too much on the raised foot. I was surprised there was a bit of motion blur on it, even with my decent ss.
