This time a flight shot. I have spent eight days at Bosque Del Apache, shooting all day.
Meanwhile there is not much around here right now.
I hope you don't mind my posting NM images for a while.
    Thank you.

This one's just lovely, Karl. Great wing position and exposure. I love how the Bosque bg compliments the coloration of the bird. Keep 'em coming.

Good sharpness, excellent detail, beautiful background with nice wing down position, what a wonderful flight shot. Just wish the leg are a little more lit here.

What a super flight pose you acquired here, Karl. Your BG is great and your image is tack sharp. Your crane's head is looking a little hot. I think you would find the image more appealing if you brought the exposure down a little bit in RAW or burned the head in PS.

Love this! Super nice details, and the eye is crystal clear. Great fully lowered wing positions - I really like the primary feather shadows on that near wing. I agree the face seems a little bright...easy tweak for this wonderful image.

Love the lighting (phase angle) and the resulting texture in the feathers! Agree with burning the head a bit or bringing highlights down in the head. I use LR, and the highlight slider control (in version 4) is almost magical at bringing out detail in white areas while at the same time maintaining midtones and shadows as they were. Great flight shot and composition.

Thanks Marina. I'll apply some linear burn.

Hi Karl, great flying pose, and this is really sharp. I like how the light has brought out all the feather detail, and that BG is sweet. Well captured.

    Hi Karl,

Superb image for all the reasons above. The feather detail is excellent. This is due to the phase angle, but I'll introduce a new concept: positive versus negative phase angle. In this image, the sun is coming from the left over your left shoulder by about 20 degrees. In this position, shadows are cast by the ends of the feathers, making the wonderful fine detail. That is called negative phase angle. If the sun were over your right shoulder, the edges of the feathers would be illuminated by the sun and thus not cast the shadows. So you were in excellent position. Well done.
