    Default Pigeon (Rock Dove)

Saturday I drive to 4 locations and only end up with an image of... a pigeon. Sunday I wake up to a flock of 100 redpolls right at my backyard feeders (stay tuned)!

The pigeon (Rock Dove) does have remarkable colours and an amazing eye. Quite a handsome fellow despite it's bad reputation within city limits. "High" ISO used to freeze the non-stop head bobbing motion...man, despite being so tame they just do not stop for a second!

Canon 7D + 100-400L @360mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/7.1, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, bottom left of the frame evened out using 40% clone stamp.

    Excellent portrait, Daniel.
These great birds saved many people from starvation when cities were besieged during medieval time. For years as a small child, it was the only meat I have ever had on holidays only because it was all we had.
That's why, other than its beauty, this bird it is one of my all-time favorites.
It is also the symbol of Peace, Love, and Faithfullness.
I'm glad to see an image of them posted.

Daniel, great capture. I love the detail and colors that you were able to obtain in this image. Very clean image. Looking forward to your redpoll images as well!

Terrific portrait. These birds do indeed have great colors, and amazing variation from one individual to the next. Good comp.

Lovely portrait, Daniel, with a killer pose and BG. I think it could use a little burning around the face area which would in turn bring out more feather details in that area. I just tried it and really liked it.

As mentioned before a nice portrait with beautiful color, excellent details and complement background. A common bird that get over look many times.
Maybe a slight crop off the top.

Hi Dan, comp works well, and you have brought out the colours on this fellow perfectly. Nothing wrong with pigeon portraits - the challenge is to get them in flight.
