Well I've been lurking around here for quite some time and wanted to congratulate all those who started and work on this site. Pretty amazing photography around here!
Here's one from a few years ago that remains a favorite. It's a Northern Gannet from Bonaventure Island, Quebec. Canon 1DII, 70-200mm F2.8 @ 70mm. ISO 250 F9 1/1000s. Image is full frame.

Well I really like this image, I think I have seen it before, the blue BG with the other floating gannets is great. I really like the details in the face and feet.
If I could change anything I guess I would like to see more than just a corner of the colony, but I still really like it as is. Also I think softening that shadow line a the base of the wing would make the image even better.
A couple of years ago I discovered a new respect for these birds. I spent time off the Transkei coast diving with these guys with whales, dolphines, sharks, seals, tuna, and others. You can feel the shock wave 10 feet away or more when they hit the water. They are really agile and fast underwater!
Thanks for posting.
Big Red Carpet Welcome Chris !!!!! Glad your posting with us !!!!
Love seeing the larger picture Excellent position for the primary subject and love all the ones in the bg Might evict the ones merging at the bottom Particularly like the bg !!! Great feel !!!! btw will be up there visiting Cape St Mary's this summer !!!
It's great to have you here, Chris. Excellent image to start off with. I really love the perspective. The wings are free and clear of any intruding out of focus gannets and your subject has great detail. I also like the inclusion of the rest of the colony in the lower right corner.
