    Default Striated Pardalote

One of our tiny pardalote species. This one is most common in drier woodland here in Victoria.
Wish the tail was in focus, but it flew in so close that I couldn't get any more DOF, even at f9 & f10!!
    D800, 300 2.8II, 1.7TC, f9, 1/500, ISO500.
    Thanks, Greg

Beautiful image Greg, I was out this morning looking for these guys that nest in creek embankments around here.
I wouldn't worry too much about the tail Greg as the other end is mega sharp. The captured prey is a bonus here, i guess on its way to the nest.
The perch works well and the suject is nicely portrayed against that warm, soft BG. Lovely image.

Nice one Greg, always a pleasure to see and photograph these little "Bush Gems"...plenty of detail showing and great natural color, the slightly oof tail means nothing in my opinion, but I find the eye a bit overdone with brightness possibly. I presume you tinkered with it in PS ? The bug in mouth is great, is it a spider ?

Thanks Phil, I actually didn't touch the eye! And you are right - it is a spider!
John, spot on - nest in a nearby creek bank,
    Cheers Greg

Another cool little bird. Important parts are sharp, not bothered by the limited DOF. Nice perch and BG. Colors look great.

Great action shot, Greg. The food item in the beak adds interest. Nice pose and great looking background.

The head, face, eye, and shoulder are plenty sharp and render the out-of-DOF range tail issue moot (as is the case 99% of the time IMO when at least the face is sharp). Great colours, comp, perch, BG, prey item.
