    Chris:

Great subject isolation, interesting perch, but the lichen is so colorful that it does compete with the bird for our attention. I like the texture it provides on the perch, but might tone down the brightness a bit. If this was shot in landscape orientation, might try a horizontal crop, since many of the lines are in that plane (perch, tail, etc.)

THe bird feels a bit murky, for want of a better term, but I think this may be because of how bright the lichen is.

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

I agree with randy. But I think the simple solution is to brighten the bird (I would select the bird and use the curves tool).

The bird looks bright enough, I might just tone down the lichen although it looks kind of cool,
it is just a bit overpowering.

Hi Chris, good eye contact, and I like the softer colours on the great tit. I have to agree, the colour of the lichen is very striking, but not sure toning it down will help, as it may lose its natural colour. Interesting suggestion by Randy to try a horizontal comp. Is there more lichen on the right of the frame.

Bird and perch are wonderful. Not a fan of black backgrounds for songbirds.

I like the pose, perch and eye contact. I could see this as a horizontal too. I like the integration of the copyright symbol with your name.

    Hows this?
    Bird brightened, sharpened, lichen darkened.

Another nice image of this tit Chris. Very sharp and good pose. Agree with Randy re yellows competing in this image. I think Roger's repost has helped to overcome this.

The repost is an improvement but the background is still a bit too dark IMO.
