Default Red Kite - further work

    Attached Images Attached Images

Hey hope you dont mind me posting more red kite shots; I am concentrating on these at the moment and have been trying to
get closer; hiding in the scrub! Yesterday afternoon I managed to create this image which is now about 70 of full frame, so a nice improvement in IQ I think.

The light was from the left so ahde to add +2 Ev, using manual exposure from now on.

The image was processede in DPP, then PS5, with s&h adjusted, the resized and sharpened.

I mAY Hve oversharped the head a little what so you?

Nice overhead image, Richard. Love the way the light coming through the tail and part of the wings.

I too like the light seeping through the wings and tail feathers. Nice overhead view. Was there a bit of subject motion blur before sharpening in the face?

    Thanks

motion blur, bit hard to say, was using expanded A1 FOcus (cant seem to get on with A1 Servo on the 7D, ironically seems not to work well with the 100-400).
as you know getting it smack on the head aint easy! I find the light direction and contrast plays a big part as you will know. Antways I was rather pleased with this one.
I am sure that shot where it all comes together is just around the corner; the kites are around every dsy snd getting bolder!

They're getting better all the time Richard - love the lighting on this one and the extended wing span and fanned tail.
The Ai servo should work on your 7D/100-400 combo. I used this set-up for all my finch images that I've posted recently. Be worth checking it out.

Beautiful underwing pattern to this bird, and it shows nicely in this image.
The head looks far sharper than the rest of the bird to me, and as such,
it looks a bit odd. I would suggest a bit more sharpening applied to the body
of the bird to at least try and somewhat match what's been sharpened on the
    head.

Sure John it does work, on slow track too as recommended in the excellent post on this site. I however get poor results atm; having said that thesae BIF are just about the hardest pics to get and lots of elements need to be controlled.
