    Default Tawny Frogmouth

This Tawny Frogmouth was nesting at 25 feet. She had 2 chicks but the night before a storm blew one chick out of the nest and didn't survive. This image was photographed about 10:0pm and normally this bird-of-the-night would be out foraging for food but a brief shower or rain brought her in to offer some shelter to the sole surviving chick. Climbing a 25 foot tower at night is something else

Well done on getting a nice clear shot for these John, the effor to get the shot was well worth it. Very cute shot with that typical Tawny look, the eyes on both adult and chick have held up very well with the flash, amazing in fact with eyes retaining entirely naural color, one of the very best images of this species I've seen

Very nice indeed John; looks so much like the Great Potoo of Central America.
Top marks for getting up that tower in poor conditions - dedication indeed - impressed

Killer Image! Very unique bird and the scene is great. The baby looking at you and the adult looking away to the distance is great. The adults eye is lit well and adds allot to the shot. The black BG makes these birds stand out perfectly. Nice..

    This is an excellent shot!
Well worth the climb in my opinion.
To get the chick and the adult in clear view makes this a winner.
Flash work looks pretty good as well.
Congrats on a fine and rare and difficult to get shot,
    Gail

Hi John, good eye contact from the chick, and as Gail mentioned, a good view of both Frogmouth's. Good use of flashwork, and I like how both are against the night sky. Just enough show of the nest too.

Your tower sure comes in handy to achieve these eye level captures.

Fantastic work, John. The chick is just too cute and I like how the mom is giving you a slightly different view. I like the uncluttered nest and the clean dark bg.
Your hard work definitely paid off and it sounds like you have quite the setup!

This is a fantastic image, John. I photographed several species of Frogmouth at night when I was in Australia and I have an idea of what it takes to get a shot like this. Well done!
