Something a bit different from a couple of months back, male and female Superb Fairy Wrens not yet in breeding color { female behind and eclipsed male in front } Found this pair enjoying a bit of seclusion within the bushes....until I came along and pointed a big black lens at them at close range. Not often one can get this close to these birds, probably about 10 feet away, sometimes one gets lucky.
Nikon D300 + Tokina AT-X 300mm f2.8..........f6.3, 1/800, ISO 500, + 0.3EV, flash fired, hand held.....dull day and birds inside bushes, cloned out small twigs in backdrop for a cleaner look, cropped to closeup composition, slight sharpen, noise reduction/blur to backdrop and rear female Wren.
Hi Phil, Yes that is a bit different - at first glance I thought it was a fledgling nestling up to mum but then realized they were both adult wrens. A very cute image desipte the OOF female. The male is mega sharp showing excellent feather detail, and I like the little splash of blue on the eclipsed male.
The male is very sharp, patch of blue nice. Overlap images can be a challenge. Generally I want enough separation to see them as distinct individuals, and these two blend together a bit much for my taste. Matching head angles also work well for overlap shots.
The matching color in the BG also tends to strengthen the merging of the two subjects for me.
Even with my "coloring outside of the lines" hat on, this one misses the mark a bit for me.
I actually like it allot. The tack sharp male in the FG against the OF, perfectly positioned female is cool. The tiny touch of blue adds to it too. Well done.
