Default Bring back the grebes of summer!

    Friendly birdsnitchers,
Apologies for an older picture, but the light these days has been anything but forthcoming. It is fun to find forgotten pictures, as we all know, and here is one from my wonderful weeks spent with the closeby grebes at pious frolic. Taken with the Canon 7D and 400mm 5.6L at iso800, 1/2000, f5.6. I've cropped a small slice off the right side. Please share your opinions if you'd care to...

Nice image, Jack. loved that the eye of the other grebe is visible...details, light, colors...they all look very good.

I really like the sharpness, color and action. What would you think about cropping down about halfway to the top of the bird's head? The "stripes" in the water are pretty but compete with the bird and its reflection, for me.

Lovely color Jack, like the errrrr....playfulness of the Grebes, well timed with the splashes, I also wonder if cropping a little more off the top would work as well

Hiya folks, I'm with you on the crop, sort of! I had a version with half of the top cropped away, but I love being distracted by those waterlines. For me it's never just about the bird(s) but also about the background. I think. That said, smartypants people, by splitting the difference like this, we lose nothing essential and quite possibly have a more pleasing image? I couldn't bring myself to lose any more than this because I'm ever so fond of the waterlines and water droplets, and perhaps this is what's called a "compromise"
