    Default White Ibis Flying

White Ibis photographed at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge late yesterday afternoon (12/6/12)
    Canon 5D3
    400mm f/2.8
    ISO 1,000
    Shutter Speed: 1/4000
    Aperture: 8.0
    Manual Exposure
    AI Servo AF

This is the first time I've uploaded a picture to this site so if I screwed up please let me know.
I'm experimenting with photographing birds in flight while I'm visiting Sanibel. CPS (Canon Professional Services) let me borrow the EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS II USM to try out. I was concerned that it would be too heavy to hand hold but so far I like it.

    Henry:

Welcome to BPN. You will find it a great place to enjoy bird photography.

Your ibis is very nice, sharp, good DOF, exposure. Just enough cant towards us to show some detail on the dorsal surface of the wings. Generally a full up or full down wing pose shows the wings to their best advantage.

From a composition standpoint, perhaps a bit lower in the frame for the ibis.

Look forward to more. Bird photography is rather addictive

Be sure to comment on other folks images. It helps foster a sense of community, and shares the groups knowledge.

    Cheers

Hi Henry - Welcome to BPN! Very nice image with a great detail on the upper part of the wings and throughout the face. Like Randy mentioned, I would consider a composition with more space on top and a little less on the bottom.

How long are you in Sanibel for?

Henry, welcome aboard. Am sure you will enjoy our company and we will enjoy your.

Tack sharp and excellent bird angle. If mine, I'd place it a tad below in the frame. Light angle not ideal but you did well and exposure is good. Very easy to blow the whites in this situation. Loved the eye.
