While photographing an adorable duck chick in a pond, I turned around to catch this Striated Caracara trying to find the right page in the bird book! Somebody quickly chased the bird away, but not before he tore out a few good chunks of paper. These caracaras on the Falkland Islands were very curious and bold at times. You didn't want to lose track of your sandwich with one of these around!

That is so cool! It really does look like he's looking for certain bird in the book.

This is an absolutely terrific, humorous picture, Nancy. If I were you I would enter it into a few contests like maybe next years Nature's Best "Animal Antics" category or some of the other contests.

Thanks everyone! Glad you all enjoyed this.
Don, your comment was a hoot..."Bird probably thought it was the menu it was viewing -- and looking for the waiter...."
And Richard, so was yours..."Classic - great image, maybe he's looking up what a female is like"

I had thought about an alternate comment "Checking off his life list of previous meals...." ;-)

    Sweeeeet image!!
I particularly like that the book is upside down...I realize this was not staged, but with
the book upside down, it "looks" even less staged imo.
