    Default Hooded Mountain Toucan (Bolivia)

This guy was very high on my wish list for Bolivia. A near endemic and an absolutely stunning species of the cloud forests. I got lucky one morning and had a pair feeding along side the "caraterra de la muerte" (road of death). Nobody really drives on that road anymore (except for crazy Canadian birdwatchers) so it is amazing for birding. I spent a solid 3 days searching the area for all kinds of goodies. But this guy was the highlight. What a beauty! :D

Very well done! The branches with the moss/lichen and gray sky really emphasize a cloud forest feeling. Perfect position of the body parallel to the branch and with the head tilted just a bit towards the viewer. Lovely saturated colors in this subdued light. Bolivia sounds challenging but rewarding. I'm looking forward to your blog.

Very beautiful image Glenn. It must have taken considerable skill to get the image this sharp at 1/60th sec. Love the lichen-covered perch and soft light. Your photos point out that I've got to try harder on mine!

    The grey background is perfect.
    How did you get that?
It makes everything else sing. This photograph almost reads like a painting.
