This is the male parent to the young galah chick posted a couple of days ago. Although I spent over a week at this site I never succeeded in capturing parent and chicks together.

    EOS 5, EF 100-300 F5.6L, ISO 200, 1/200 sec F 8, natural light with fill flash, 20 foot tower/hide, Tripod.

When I opened this up, I immediately thought what a nice print it would make for a child's room...very sweet and delicate colors. If you have any more room, I think that a looser comp could work as well as what you have presented here. Thanks for sharing this one!!

Sweet little one. I really like the pastel colors, the way those little feet are holding on and the nice clean bg

I like the pose, details, sharpness and setting. I agree with Grace's comment on a looser version. Still a beauty as presented John!

Looks better with more space I think, nice shot, a well udes hollow by the look of it with lots of scratches on the tree bark....I can see a bit of halo on the edges around the head area though.

I like this allot. Great exposure and detail. Like the looser crop also but still fine as presented. Awesome looking male Galah. Used to breed siticines years ago and we called these Rose breasted cockatoos in the states. Well done.

Thanks for the comments David - yes our field guides give Rose-breasted cockatoo as an alternative name. I must say it's more appealing than 'Galah'.

I like the revised comp more too. I love the perfect nest-hole (both in shape and cleanliness). Great colours to this species. Did they take a while to get used to your hide or did they accept it quickly?

Hi John, after seeing your previous post of this species, I just love looking at the softer colours they have, and they all go well together. Good look back pose, well exposed, and good use of subtle flash. Your repost does look better.

Thanks for the comments Daniel - its always necessary to introduce a hide or tower gradually over a period of days. In the case of the Galah's tree-hollow the tower was erected in stages and completing the desired height after about 5 days. Using this cautious approach I've never experienced stressed parents or nest desertion, but yes, nest photography requires a lot of care and to know when to back off.

    John,

Beautiful birds. I have a print of a pair hanging in the den.

Not sure if its my monitor/viewing angle but it almost looks like the flash could have been dialed back a tad.
The wing seems a little bright. Also, not sure if the daylight or flash caused some shadows off the leg and front
    of the nest hole.

Kudos on the field skills to get the shot.
