By no means a new species for me, but this was the first time that I was able to capture one why laying down on my belly. Full frame, except for the crop on top and bottom to make it 16:9 aspect ratio.

    Shooting info:
    D800 | 500 f/4 VR | 1.4x
    1/2000" | f/7.1 | ISO 640

    Miguel:
Excellent image with low angle.Beautiful colors, lights, blue water and details.
Would crop at the bottom and add more on the top.Image is looking little bit bright on my monitor.

    Regards,
    Satish.

You certainly achieved a low perspective here Miguel and the 16:9 aspect ratio does make for a good composition .

Nice job commiting to the low angle...yielded a beautiful image here. The amount of focal length
used+the low angle, gives the viewer the sense of being in the water with the heron. The crop
is creative and effective imo. The bright area in the upper right part of the frame, pulls the eye
    ever so slightly...

Nice low POV! Great lighting. I think the white spot at the top could be edited out.

nice low angle and alert pose.I like the composition too. I'd sharpen the bird more and slightly adjust levels something like this

Thanks for the comments! I seem to always have my images a bit on the bright side - not sure if it's a personal preference or just a habit.

Arash - thanks for taking the time to process this. Do you mind sharing what you did in levels? And how much sharpening you applied?

A larger version can be seen here.

Arash's rework really brings a wonderful image up another couple notches. Your low angle, comp, and angle of the bird towards you are wonderful. With tricoloreds I often have trouble getting their head angled towards me. Gorgeous portrait.

I used the level tools in PS to adjust the blacks and then I used smart sharpen amount 25 radius 0.5 pixels. large size looks very good!

Miguel, great low angle...by you as well as the heron :-) amazing shot. Arash's adjustments make a big difference.

The angle of the bird in the frame is perfect. Good call leaving room below for virtual legs. I'd love to take such a shot of this bird but they aren't easy to find and approach here.

I'm with Arash on the adjustment to levels for a little more contrast. I love the low angle and great detail I am a little distracted by the bright spot top right area and would tone it down a little if it were mine
