This guy has to be considered in the top 5 most beautiful hummingbirds in the world. What an absolute stunner!!

I found this guy feeding on some roadside flowers in the mountains and managed to get a few nice frames that really show off the birds incredible tail. I hope that you enjoy them!

Lots more to come from Bolivia :D

I have to say this is stunning...especially considering it wasn't a "set up" photo, but captured serendipitously. Terrific colors, environment with flowers, BG, composition. Great job, Glenn. I would say this is NatGeo quality.

Wow Glen that is a stunning composition - first time I've seen this species of Hummingbird, absolutely beautiful and the pose, branches and purple flowers further enhance this high quality image - exquisite.

That truly is a breathtaking bird and image. How fortunate to find this beauty on such a lovely plant. The pose you caught him in couldn't be better to show off those colors. Can't wait to see more.

WOW! This is an awesome image! The bird is spectacular and the perch/setting is sublime. Add a perfect background and you have perfection!
How did you manage such a great image without setup Glenn? Looking forward to more from Bolivia,
    Cheers Greg

Greg and Dennis: I wholeheartedly agree that this bird and this image are truly spectacular but to take cheap shots at hummingbird set-up photography using a perched hummingbird as an example of what can be accomplished without a set-up is not only off-base but uncalled-for.

Congratulations, Glenn, on a fantastic image of such a gorgeous hummingbird.

    Gary,

What cheap shot? I think you protest too much. It was intended as a compliment, not a criticism.

I have nothing at all against set-up photography. I admire what can be done with those techniques, as long as it doesn't unethically impact the bird or the species being photographed. On the other hand, I truly admire the skill and timing to obtain such photos without resorting to set-ups.

    Peace.

    Gary,
I must say I'm more than a little flabbergasted with your comments!!

I'm with Gary - I actually think you have completely missed the point here.... In no way did I intend this to be a criticism of set-ups!! In fact the absolute opposite is true - I am in awe of hummingbird setup photography - a true craft which requires much skill. In fact I am actually a fan of any bird photography setup - and am attempting to hone skills myself in this area. I was simply asking how Glenn achieved such a marvelous shot without setup!

This is probably one of the top five avian images I have seen all year, very well done.

What can I say but WHOW!

    . . . . . and that's a WHOW to the species and a WHOW to your capture!

    thanks for sharing.
