Thanks Arash, and you are correct, A Roughed legged Hawk, I think.
I actually was photographing harriers, and there were territorial disputes as Red Tail, Harriers, Roughed legged, and Red Shouldered hawks were all in the area. I did get a decent Harrier photo during the same sequence.

Like the wing position and sharpness. I think it's a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk.

Great shot Dan of an American Rough Legged hawk. Looks like a female and an adult darker morph. Clear, sharp, nice wing position an exposed well. Would be very happy to have this shot in my files. Great work!!

Great profile flight pose on this beautiful hawk! I do wish the front wing was fully lit, but man this is nice.

    Dan,

Outstanding fly-by. I like the wing position and the exposure is great. I have never seen a dark rough-legged before, I'll have to guess that it is a red-tailed. Were you hand holding inside a vehicle?

Laurie, yes, It was at Ridgefield yesterday.
I have never seen so many hawks, numerous fights, etc.
I handhold out the window, I do not use a pad or anything, I do better just holding the camera and I can angle any way I want.
I don't even brace against the car as the engine is usually on, just freehold and get better, sharper photos, I think.

Beautiful, tack sharp BIF , Dan. Great IQ.
Wish for a slight head turn our way but that is a very minor issue and I would love to have this in my files!

Beautiful bird and photo, Dan. Looks like a Western Red-tailed Hawk (dark morph) are you on the west coast?

Thats a great close-up image of the Hawk in flight Dan, and with the 600mm hand-held..!! A nice clean image with loads of impact.

    Thanks Don,
I will take your ID on the hawk.
By the way, your PP of the Snowy on OBOL was really good.
I wish I could post it here.
