    Default California Cranes

These Sandhill Cranes were photographed in the California Central Valley (specifically, Merced National Wildlife Refuge), where there's a healthy population of these birds each winter. This image was captured well after sunset, as the birds flew into into the refuge for the evening.

The different wing positions and layered BG makes this an interesting composition.

Looks like a stitched sequence, cool! Beautiful colours. You could get away with cropping off about 30 to 40% of the space above. ISO 8000...the light was indeed well past sunset!

Very nice! I think a crop with a higher aspect ratio would work well here. You can take a bit off the top and maybe even a little off the bottom (but keep the mountains). Great shot!

Great wing-blur and a beautiful background. Fine job.

This trio make a fine composition Steve especially considering the specs - well done! I agree cropping from the top would further strengthen this composition.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I took your suggestion and cropped a bit from the top (and a smaller bit from the bottom). I think it was a good idea. Here's the result.
