Love his pose. Nice catch and nice composition. Really sharp especially for that low shutter speed. Always nice to have red and green together.

This shows his colors very nicely. Also good perch, pose and bg. On my one excursion to Costa Rica I found the low light conditions to be very challenging. You did a nice job here with the low SS.

    Gary:

Nice colors, I like the crop for this pose, well exposed.

The slow shutter speed did induce motion blur in the head.

Raising the ISO would have been a good option here to get more shutter speed. Better a bit more noise, and sharp image than vice versa.

    Cheers

Thanks for your comments. I had to do some sharpening on the eye because there was definitely some motion in there...upon further review, I see some in the bill too.

Such a beautiful bird and dynamic pose. The bird really pops from that rich green background. I'm planning a trip there next year; hope to get such a lovely shot.

Hi Gary. Good advice above on bumping the ISO to get more shutter speed; I would also have opened up the aperture a bit for the same reason. Aracaris tend to move around a fair amount, so shutter speed really helps sharpen things up. I also see a yellow cast to the image.

Looks like you had a good time with Greg!

    Gary,

I like the color and the pose. I think the bird is sharp enough. I looked at my aracari's and used f6.3 on most (never f8) and all have soft tails and/or bills. I think the choice of f8 was good. I also don't like to go over ISO 800 in low light. I think you did a great job on this bird.

Great pose, colour and composition Gary - another vote from me for increasing the ISO for a faster SS.

Hi Gary, well exposed on this fellow, and I like the leaning inquisitive pose. Good to see the various colours on him, and I do like the BG. I agree, a faster ss would have achieved a sharper image.
