ok.. lots of loons grace this page... but I do love the color of them.. the light was beautiful here... morning haze... waves were splashing over his feathers.. the loons here are NOT very friendly when migrating.. once they get set up and accustomed to people they settle down.. but early in the spring.. no.... so this shot was not that easy to get... though as always.. difficulty has no effect on opinion.. only in my personal satisfaction of a job well done.. or is it.. well..... done.... ?

I like loons too, and you got a very nice specimen here. Nice low angle to boot. The eye looks a little strange - perhaps getting rid of the catchlight in the pupil would fix that. Also tight in the frame...the loon needs some space to swim into :-) I really like the water coming off (or onto) the breast area.

Agree with everything Daniel said. I'd love to photograph a loon with plumage like that someday.

thanks for the opinions... I chose a tight crop because I thought it better displayed the water riding up his breast from a small wave.. I tried a larger crop and it didnt show as well.. I almost wonder if I shouldnt try a vertical crop as a portrait.. there is enough detail....
