    Default Red Knot

Another first for me on my trip to Little Estero Lagoon last week. I've realized that identifying shorebirds is very challenging, at least at first. Took me a while to ID this guy as a red knot, as I had no idea where to start looking! It wasn't windy at the time, and so the water was very calm. I opted to get closer and crop out a bit of the reflection, as I didn't think it was adding much. Would have loved to have him against a green background (all he had to do was move a couple of feet), but he was bathing and this is the place he liked most.

    Shooting info:
    D800 | 500 f/4 VR | 1.4x | home-made skimmer pod
    700mm | 1/1600 | f/7.1 | ISO 400

Comments, critiques, and suggestions are all welcomed and appreciated.

    Miguel:

Sharp, nice shooting angle, good angle in frame, good choice on the crop.

    Cheers

A very nice portrait of the Red Knot Miguel. Nice high-key image and I like that little reflection of the bird. Nice one!

Nicely composed, and nice to see one in the shallow water for the shot, like the softeness the light gives in this and uniform soft green backdrop, I think maybe the head could withstand a touch more sharpen though, but one sweet shot indeed.

    Very attractive photo.
Silky look to it, the subtle reflection and comp is very nice.

Very nice, and it's nice to see this species as well. I like the simple/calming setting.
A consideration would be to do another pass of USM on the head/face of the bird,
so I agree with Phil there...

    Wonderful shot.
Excellent low angle, exposed very well, and great pose.
Agree eith Phil. Head looks a tad soft.
    Well done.

Nice shot and like the low angle and pose. Exposure looks good too. Like how the water blends with the BG. Looks a little soft on the head on my monitor also. Nice work.
