Been a while since I posted. Here's an immature Eastern Rosella from Australia from a couple of days ago. I love the subtle shades in these birds.

Hi Colin, this guy must have every colour on the spectrum - lots to look at. Good HA, and I feel if you had him perched against a clearer BG, he would really pop.

Neat colours in this fella, like a miniature macaw! Sharp as posted, and well exposed. I too wish for a cleaner BG...either via a perch, or by you lying down in the grass (only if possible, of course)

Colin, lovely capture. Nice use of fill, too. Love the colors that these guys have - I've never seen one before. As Daniel and Stuart mentioned, a cleaner BG would make this guy really stand out. If you get the chance again and are feeling up for it, see if you can get down on the ground.

Hi Colin - one of our most attractive parrots though the adult male stands head & shoulders above the female's somewhat drab colours! Do you think this is a juvenile or adult female? Agree presentation would be enhanced if the bird was on a perch against a softer BG.

Thanks for the comments. These are notoriously shy birds, even in a semi-urban environment. I had crept up on this one but didn't dare try and get lower because it would have been off. John, this one is an early season immature but does look similar to a mature female at this stage.

I find these never an easy target, so you have done well to get this close, sharp detail and light. I dont mind shots of these doing what they do naturally as in grazing on the grasses, but have to agree about getting down lower for the shot.
