Here is another image from my recent travels. I watched as the male was gathering sticks and flying to the nest to hand them off to the female. This was my attempt at getting the shot as the stick was being passed over. Captured at Wakodahatchee Wetlands with a Canon D Mark II N, Canon 300 f2.8IS lens with 1.4x extender, partial metering, 1/640 second at f4 in manual mode with flash, ISO 400. The male seen here is the same bird I posted a flight image of a few days ago.
Good interaction her, and nice timing with the passing of the stick! The herons seems a bit soft as posted, and I would get rid of the bright circles in the URC. Well balanced, and enjoyable to view :-)
Nice action you captured here Tim! And I love the eye-level view of the birds. Looks a little soft to me. I'm wondering if a smaller aperture would've made the difference. Not a lot of DOF at f/4, and it looks like you had more than enough light to stop down.
Thanks to all for your helpful comments. I checked the full size photo and sharpness looks good, so I may have neglected to properly downsize the image prior to posing it above in the original post. In the reposted image below, I corrected the sharpness and the bright spots in the background in the upper right corner. I also corrected what appeared to be a slight amber color cast. Hopefully this one will look more appealing.
