Looks like it was from a Murhpy workshop
It's a sweet portrait in nice light quality, great head angle and eye contact, perch is classy.
Consideration at the time of capture would have been to trade ss for stopped down f-stop.
The feet and the particularly the most visible part of the branch would look better if they
were more in focus. (Assumption is that you were in a blind for this image, so backing up
to get more dof was probably not an option at time of capture)....I don't really dig the colored
border on this image. However, I do dig how you are "fighting the man", to keep your posts

Wonderful pose, composition, and I really like the leaves on the perch. Like Shawn I wish you had gone for more depth of field as I find the out of focus feet distracting. I also find the colored border distracting and it reminds me of chromatic aberration. But overall a really lovely portrait of this oriole that I would love to have.

Those are pretty birds. The bird in this photo looks over sharpened to me.

Hey Joe, Really nice bird, like the head angle, and like the perch and BG. Wish you were not losing focus by the feet but still a nice image.

Borders are a personal thing, many love them, just as many don't.....not fussed either way
Yes a pity the feet are not in perfect focus, but in all honesty I didn't really pick up on it initially. The color and composition works especially well particularly the dainty ferny looking leaves. Not sure if this is over sharpened or is it just an effect of light on glossy plumage. Whichever, I think this is very good, it's the kind of image I strive for rather than an ordinary " bird on a stick " shot...good stuff !

Beautiful bird and shot. Techs look great and I like the Bg as the canvas for this bird. Yes the DOF covering the feet would have been nice but the head is so sharp that it draws the viewer to it and not the feet. Like Phil said, not sure if its the sheen on the feathers or if its a little over sharpened. Well done.

Thanks Shawn. I am very upset over the fact that the owners of this fine site could stoop to such a low level by using people's posts to advertise , without ever getting permission to do so. I understand that the site costs $ to operate , but to dis-respect the members in this manor is way beyond wrong. My attempts to solve this through, communication with the owners/moderators have largely gone un-answered.

And good eye , it is from an Alan Murphy workshop.

If I remember correctly , it is a sheen as I believe the bird was in the water bathing just before it came to perch.

Wonderful image. A tad more dof would have made it a little better. I still enjoy it quite a bit though. TFS

Beautiful image of a beautiful species. Nice setup. Comp is good, but perhaps a bit tight.

You didn't communicate with every moderator The ads are basically here to stay and we realize not everyone is happy about it...I'll point your thread along so someone form the ownership group can answer you directly...

Beautiful photo, great BG and I am not bothered by the DOF. Sharp where it needs to be sharp.

As for the ads, they have become so common place that I hardly notice. Just scroll right past them.

It's a good photo, Joe, but to offer suggestions on how you might improve it, please tell us what camera body and lens you were using. And, how close was the bird to you ?

The bird seems to have an un-natural sheen to it.

I can't tell if its from over-sharpening, too-heavy saturation applied, or aggressive brightness/contrast application. To my eye, it looks intense and over-processed.

I'm also curious as to why you were shooting 1/2500 at F/5.6 with the bird static on a perch.

The DOF would have been enhanced if you had selected a slower shutter speed and a smaller aperture.

I don't know if you're amenable, but if you posted the original file, and let others have a stab at processing it, I'm sure we could all benefit.
