Yup there all over the bay coming into Florida. Just a bunch of bobbing heads from the car view :) Got this Northern Shoveler in St. Petersburg today. I like the open bill with the touch of seaweed.

    Cheryl:

Your shot shows the trademark bill well, like that its open a bit with the chow! They have moving through my area of Michigan for about 3-4 weeks now.

Always interesting to see the various stages of plumage. Most of our males are still a bit scruffy looking like this fellow, but a few are already in full breeding plumage.

    Well exposed, sharp as well.

    Cheers

A nice close up Cheryl, I think cloning out the dark patches in the BG would look nice.
The large open bill is pretty cool.

Loving the open bill and the little bow wave, excellent closeup and light , wonderful color on this bird. We don't get them in any great numbers here, just the odd one or two, but always look forward to seeing one from time to time

Hi Cheryl, good low perspective, and I like the hint of green on the head. As Randy states, great view of the open bill, and the yellow eye pops nicely. Sounds like we will be seeing a lot more of these guys from you.

I have a hard time getting to within a hundred yards of this species, so this beautiful portrait has me drooling. The bit of vegetation on the bill adds alot, and I love the little wave being pushed by the subject.

Ditto everything Daniel stated. The f8 covered the duck perfectly.
Love the parted bill detail. Low angle is solid. A little fill flash was a worthwhile
consideration here...but that's really a fine tuning/taste kind of thing. The
image rocks perfectly fine without any flash.

Beautiful close portrait, with a super job on the depth of field. Lucky you to be able to get so close!

Nice close up shot of an eclipse drake shoveler. Well exposed and full of detail. Like the open mouth with the seaweed. Give this duck a few months and he will be one of the most striking ducks there are IMO. Great work.

    Terrific shot!
Love the slightly open bill, very nice light, excellent comp, nice details, and great shotting angle.
I wish I could this close to this species. Even in my car they still fly off when they anyone coming.
    Well done.
