Default Young Bull on the move

Finally getting a chance to work on some Yellowstone/Teton images from my tour in late Sept - early October. Found this young bull in a near a herd of buffalo when he started off after a female. He ran quite a distance and fortunately ran by a clearing of fall colors.

Hey Roman, great to see you back and posting in this part of the Forum, plus I very much appreciate your thoughts, comments and feedback on previous threads.

A very rich and vibrant image and having this animal moving/in flight too, puts it into another league. I really like the rich black tones in the colouration of the moose, juxtapose to the warm yellows, oranges & ochres of the 'fall colours'. I would just watch the blacks on the under belly filling in, easy to correct. Personally I think you could add some more selective sharpening on the head, likewise have you though of flipping it so it's coming in from the right? I like it as presented, nicely framed/positioned, but just check your setting for web, as it has an untagged profile which may be pushing the colours.

Look forward to seeing more Roman in the coming days/weeks.

    TFS

One of the nicest moose shots I have ever seen.
Love that he is coming slightly towards you.
    Great BG as well.
I might dodge the dark brown silhouette of the buffalo(?) between the hind legs.
    Well done,
    Gail

    Roman,

A "cracking image" as Steve Kaluski would say! I really like the shiny coat and the running gait here. The fall colors helped you out into the next level as they say. Good set of antlers, nice build and good muscles showing in the front quarters makes this one sparkle. I agree the eyes and head could do with a bit of sharpening. The eye looks a bit soft or perhaps dull as is. You could lighten the buffalo in the leg area, but it does not detract from the image to me. A nice one to sell for a 12x18 print. TFS.

Hi Roman - Beautiful image with great action and fall colors. I like the light too and the shine on the moose. Good suggestions above for tweaking an already excellent image.

Thanks Steve!!! Thanks for the feedback on the comments as I feel that is a big part of the community (commenting) even if you haven't been participating in a while. I believe you need to be an active participant on the forums and comment frequently......although surprisingly given their status....I do see many of the recent posts.....people haven't commented on others but have just commented on their own posts (perhaps to build post/comment count?) or given pats on the back to others that comment on their posts only?? That way.....no one learns.... but as we are very well aware.......this has been the struggle from the beginning of bpn.
Interesting at best my friend..... but you have done more than an admirable job of holding down the fort in my absence!!!

I actually pulled back on the colors as the Mark 3 tends to push the reds even thought the combined histogram looks good. I will check the profile as well because given all the updates.....may not have paid attention there. On the flip front.....I understand the philosophy.....but i won't do that. It is how I saw it and as you well know....I want one frame in camera if possible.

I will tweak the sharpening.....having been away I do see the difference now and will tweak it.

I look forward to participating more in the coming weeks!

Hello Roman, I love the shine to the moose's coat and the rich BG colours really make this stand out as a top image.

    Congrats

Hi Roman, I hope a lot read your reply, as the words express a lot about sharing, learning and the community on here at BPN, putting a little in will reap more coming out.

No worries about the 'flipping' suggestion, just felt it was worth a punt.

Be great to see you back, populating the Forum with your work and comments, you are still a big part here for me and a great role model too.

    Cheers

    Hi Roman,
besides the untagged color issue, cracking image to come back,
like the dynamic pose of the running moose and the fall colors.
Comp works very nice with lots of room to run into ......!!!

Maybe a tad more USM on the moose , just my personal feeling.

Roman, this must be the first running moose shot I've seen...ever. They are usually quite static in photographs?
I love the colour palette here, and the running pose. Looks like a healthy one from the sheen on the coat? Exposure nicely handled for my taste.

I have to echo that it's great to have you commenting/participating again and I echo your thoughts that there needs to be more interactive critique here as many comments/critique are taken but we rarely know if it's applied/learned from.

BG perfectly captures the feel of a bright Fall day and you captured this guy during a nice point in his stride. Nice job on the coat to show off the muscles of the chest and legs.
