    Default Splendid Fairy-wren again

Another one from my latest adventure inland, interesting that the Splendids in Hattah Kulkyne NP seem to like living in the stunted bushes in the sand dunes and they seem to know each bush very well. This particular group had 3 males and I guess two were immature as the plumage had not quite reached full colour like this one. Taken literally the last hour before leaving the Park when I thought I'd take a quick walk over the sand dunes next to my camp, simple walk without tripod etc.

Canon 7D + 500 f4......f5, 1/500, ISO 200 , no flash....cropped , some twigs cloned out just below his perch, and usual basic sharpen and noise reduction to backdrop

    Phil:
Excellent image of colorful Fairy-wren.Very nice composition.
Love the colors, details, perch and nice BG. Prey in the beak is bonus.Wish bird was more parallel to perch.
Nice PP work.Would remove the last piece of twig in LLC.

    Regards,
    Satish.

These birds are just amazing. BG really brings out its colors, and I like that the pose is slightly different from the usual.

    Very nice Phil.
    Lovely BG and perky pose.
Always a bonus when they have food in their mouth.
I see a hint of purple/magenta cast but that is an easy fix in color balance.

nice pose, a good perch and a nice BG. The food item adds a lot here :)

Details look a bit coarse to me, was this a big crop? TFS

    Phil,

Wonderful image with very nice colors. The bg in this one really helps the bird pop out of the frame.

I agree with Arash. I think that focus may have been on the back feathers, and possibly an attempt to sharpen may have given this look. Still, I enjoy the image very much and wish it were mine!

Gorgeous bird and it really is isolated nicely and popping against that background.
The perch has some nice character. There is a bit of something coming into the
very bottom of the left hand corner of the frame that could be removed. A better
body angle/head angle would have been nice here. Another consideration would
be to back off the sharpening a bit....looks just a touch crunchy...on the bird
anyway, the perch looks fine as is.

Nice capture of a beautiful bird. The snack is an awesome bonus.

    Phil:

I think these are great looking birds. Good comments above, and my first thought on viewing the image was that the bird looked a bit crunchy, oversharpened. Worth a try to back that off just a sliver. Eye and prey item very nice.

    Cheers

No not much crop at all, almost full frame which may account for why the detail looks coarse/bold, has only had a small tweak with sharpening...cheers Arash
