This fellow was taken the same afternoon as my last spoonie post, out on the boat with Capt. James. I liked the preening and in particular the pink reflection on the underside of his bill.

Post: Selective sharpening, small crop for comp. I know it looks like it needs CCW rotation, but I think its because he is standing and the body is angling up from the water line, and he is turned a bit away as well.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

Gail - I hope the water is pretty enough for you in this one

    Cheers

    Randy

I think dankearl summed it up with the word " delicate " Wonderful light in this shot Randy, such a beautiful bird and a great preening posed timed perfectly

Ah, memories... Nice image, I didn't realize they were able to grab a single feather with that large spatulate bill of theirs! Great job with the techs. I'm not sold on the comp though...I know you were being careful with the virtual feet and the pink reflection fills in the bottom nicely, but I would still prefer less below and more above and right. Highly subjective of course!

Hi Randy, love the light in this, together with the preening pose, and the bill grabbing the single feather adds a nice touch. The pink of the spoonie, and the lighter blues of the water go well together.

I would love to photograph this species one day.

One of the reasons I want to go to Florida. Beautiful pose and exposed well. Details look good and I like the comp myself. Well done.

    Thanks everyone:
    I really appreciate your input.

Daniel - I do have more room all the way around, but went for the crop as shown for the reason you guessed. Since I know the bird is standing, not floating, I felt like he needed room, and I like the pink reflection too!

    Cheers
