We have had a nice influx of these Pine Grosbeaks in central Ontario over the past few weeks. It's enjoyable just watching them bend, twist and cling as they go after berries and crab apples. This, I think, is a female, although it could be a young male.
Canon Mark IV, 500mm f/4L II, ISO:400, f/5.6@1/400, EC: +2.0, AP, AI Servo AF, evaluative. Gitzo 3530, leveling head, jobu HD2 gimbal. Small crop for comp. One crab apple removed from UL edge. Slight desaturation of reds (hopefully not too much).

    All C&C welcomed and appreciated.

This is a fun image Dan.
Tack sharp face and eye and beak crunching into the berry. Nice composition
Pity about the branch across the tail but that is a minor issue for me,

The contorted pose looks very nice. The head and is nicely lit and very sharp.
Great job to find one and nice picture of it, Don.

This makes my back hurt just looking at it!

Great pose, feeding activity, detail in eye.

    Well captured.

    Dan,

Great capture. Like Alan mentioned, I like the focus point being dead on. This is one of those images where a shallowish depth of field is a strength. Great Job!

Fun shot and spot on focus. Well exposed and I like the comp too. Nice feather detail in the head and neck. Well done.

Really nice, and focus is spot on..and as Miguel points out the shallow DOF works very well for this image! I could see a bit of a crop at bottom, but still good as is.

Great pose . The focal point and comp are perfect. I am on the fence about the branches. If it were mine I might play with removing the very last inch or so of the top branch running horizontal

This is a great image. Nice behavioral component and very sharp where it needs to be. The image showcases the dexterity of this species while feeding on berry trees, particulary noticeable when they work out towards the edges of the tree like this. Parrots of the northwoods. I would not have considered cropping a bit off the bottom prior to Dan's suggesting it, but now it does sound like a reasonable consideration.
