Not a captive, a wild hawk that sat on a fence post and let me get within 10 feet.
They do act tame at times, top of the food chain, I see them harass Bald Eagles, so they are fearless.

Great portrait shot with amazing details, Dan. It looks as if the bird was posing for you and a pose he/she chose was great.

    Dan,

Nice detail and composition. I think he is looking for dinner. The light makes this photo.

Excellent details and creamy BG. Love the piercing eye, and the HA you got him at makes it look even more menacing. I'd look into adding a bit of canvas at right and toning down the bill. Also try a touch of red in Color Balance. Usually it is the young ones that tolerate a close approach...most of the adults flee from a good distance away.

Hi Dan, a really good portrait here. You have captured incredible detail, and the sharpness is spot on. Yes to a good HA, and love the stare. Im fine with the comp as is, but Im sure adding to the right wont harm the image either.

    This is superb!
IQ "is to die" for. Lovely light as well and that eye is so full of detail
Add a bit more on the right and this is a 10 out of 10!

very cool pose and sharp details, composition is nice too. I do see a green cast on the red-tail, surprised no one else mentioned maybe it's just me :D
