Got to participate in the extraordinary South Georgia Island and Falkland Island excursion and meet in person some more of the great folk from here - especially had great times talking with Nancy Bell and Denise Ippolito ---- I was working on this image that for me captured a small bit of the mindboggling "otherness" of much of the trip - and it didn't fit anywhere here on the forum that i could think of (pretty small in frame there....) so I was hoping it would be ok to post it here.

we were sailing on the ship down King Haakon Bay and this is a tiny portion of the incredible glacier at the end of the bay.

This is very nicely composed. I like the strong primary diagonals in the glacier, and the terns provide a good scale reference. You have a very good range of tones, as well. Although the blue is really appropriate for such a scene, I think I'd warm it up a bit to get the contrast between the highlights and the blue shadows.

The birds add a real sense of scale of the glacier. Great detail! My vote for tone would be somewhere between the two..............

Pat, this is a great way to capture the grandness of the glacier by using the tiny terns in the foreground! I was mostly stumped. I also think tones somewhere between the two.

thank you all - the colors had me totally unsure. I have 4 or 5 frames around this time, and in each the ice was a different color.

I sure wish we had had some sun - I would have loved to get some glow in the ice, but that wasn't to be that day. I've been googling - looking to see if i can find any useful tutorials on how to realistically add ice glow - but may just have to try going back again <grin>

I'll play some more with the colors - the color i posted is what happened when i set the blacks in lightroom - Dennis - yours is probably closer to what it was before i did that.

thank you so much for looking!

Lovely! You captured the hugeness of the glacier, and the ease of the birds in what seems to me an inhospitable environment. I like both versions, or somewhere in between. I would eliminate the dark areas in the corners, especially noticeable in the upper corners. I don't have any suggestions for getting glow on the ice, but others may have. Welcome to this forum!

Hi Pat. This is beautiful! It was so nice to spend time with you as well! I like the idea of somewhere in between and I too would evict the vignette. Great slice of heaven!

Incredible sight! nicely captured. I will certainly get rid of the vignette, if it were mine. TFS.

Pat, it's nice to see you in OOTB The image really conveys the massiveness of the iceberg. I'd vote for something in between the two posts.
