It's such a treat to see this fine fellow on the ground! I'd love to see more of the original capture, what's on the top in particular. It looks like the background is pretty sweet and seeing more of it would only help, I feel. I wouldn't say "no" to some more room on the right as well. To my taste, there is too much bird in this frame! As for the bird, you seem to have some good details and it's great to see him mid-chomp. Ryan: a w.w. crossbill on the ground at 310mm would make me lose my noodle b/c I only ever see these beauties high up in the pines...

Excellent shot of this species. Love the rich colours, nice background and the low shooting angle.

I kind of like the pano crop, although I agree with the suggestion about adding canvas on the right. Perhaps a bit more sharpening of the bird too (in the areas where focus seems to fall off).

Dont mind it as is, lots of nice detail, maybe a bit tight in the frame, but I always reckon if you have the detail then flaunt it by cropping tight I think possibly this could stand a tad more sharpening around the head region, but overall well done on this one

Sweet low angle image of this male, and a nice follow up from your last righteous post of this species.
Another consideration for the comp would be to have less fg and a bit more bg....trading negative space
basically. I like the open bill and great head angle here.

Great job going low! I just photographed a Pine Grosbeak in almost the same exact situation and setting recently I like Shawn's idea of trading spaces between FG and BG.

    Thanks all!

I will work on the above suggestions and try and get a repost out today or tomorrow.
