    Default Muskrat Love - NOT!

For the more 'experienced' members in the audience, this title may bring back distant memories of the 1976 pop song of the same title. It was a silly ditty by Capt. and Tennille about, you guessed it, muskrats in love

Anyway, this is definitely not what was going on here. This little muskrat was cruising along, and an always pugnacious trumpeter took umbrage with his path.

The light was poor, the water was very messy (millions of bubbles), but I liked the interaction/story enough to give it a go despite the technical flaws.

Post: Water clean up, selective sharpening, crop for comp. I left enough of the swan to give you a real sense of the scale, "David vs. Goliath".

    Advice and comments appreciated.

    Cheers

    Randy

The action always overrides technical flaws IMO. Great picture, it really tells the story of an event I have never vitnessed. Thanks for sharing, Randy.

I loved that song!!Once you heard it, it was in your head for the whole day.
    Excellent interaction and behavior.
I feel it needs a slight CW rotation.
My biggest bugaboo with this shot is the color of the water. It looks so beige and blah. I feel silly saying that because you have no control over such things but that was my first thought when I saw the image.
I would still love to have this in my files,
    Gail

Yep, you didn't have to explain the title to me...and thanks alot...i'll now be humming it all day, along with Gail.

I think that you did well with telling this story. Good composition and interesting lines created by the reflection. well done.

Hi Randy, well timed to capture the action, and no doubt, you knew it was coming. Low angle works, as does the flying water. Rotation looks good from here, as the lines below the swan look orientated - I think Gail has looked above the swan where the ripples are running slightly diagonally.

Randy - is it Susie or Sam? Interesting action, well captured. I like that the diagonal splash sort of mimics the swan's head angle. Low pov works very well.

Randy, new action here, very nice. This little guy acts like he owns the lake over there, but apparently does not.

Being in the right place at the right time has paid off nicely Randy, not something we would think of seeing over this way.....agree with others sentiments regarding the action captures outweighs any loss of techs

I've seen muskrats scare the bejesus out of ducks several times, but I've never seen "waterfowl strikes back".
Excellent behavioral/storytelling image. Heck, any time you can get a mammal and a bird in the same image,
particularly interacting, I think you're doing all right.

Thanks everyone for your input. Sorry about the dull water!

I thought it was pretty neat to have the muskrats tail sticking up.

I was very fortunate to get this shot. I was looking elsewhere, and heard a commotion and spun around and had time for two frames.

    Cheers
