cool pose and great high key exposure. sharp. would be ideal to get a full top side bank with the near wing lowered all the way as well.

I see a subtle yellowish cast and some fringes (lens flare?) around the bird which I removed

Thanks Arash, I tried several versions with some whiter than others.
I agree about the Caste, you fixed it.
I also muffed the next frame with a fuller downstroke, but liked this one.
It flew from in the grassy dunes into the sky and I got too much sky exposure, so made the high key.

Arash has made a stunning image...stupendous !....I'd just like you to know you are driving me nutzzzz from envy with these wonderful Owl shots hehehehe. Very nice, it is a great example of high key photography, a slight shame the near wing is not lower, but that's a minor nit pic.

Very cool white on white. Love the wonderful pattern of barring on the bird's back/wings.
Because of the wing positioning, I think less space on the bottom and more space above the bird's
fully stretched wing makes more visual sense...basically same comp., just trading the negative
    space around.

    Dan:

Do you have an extra room? I need to get out to see these owls!

Nice high key shot, some good points and input above. I particularly like Shawn's compositional thoughts, and agree.

    Cheers

    This is excellent!
I think Shawn makes an excellent point about composition and Arashs' repost addresses the yellow cast.
You are killing me with these great shots!

Repost with the crop change recommended. My PP skills are not up to Arash, but here is another version.

Gorgeous capture and the "high key" look works nicely. Not sure about the crop, I like the re-post better but I think you could make any crop work.

    Dan,

High Key is like being in the snow. Love it but Arash made it even better.

Hi Dan, good banking angle, and I do like the snowy against the high key BG. Good to see the eye, and I like what Arash has done with the cast.

Great capture Dan! They are not easy to photograph, and you manage to get away with that eye contact. I agree with Arash that it would be ideal to get the left wing tip all the way down. On your repost, I can still see a slight yellow cast on the wing tips.

To further add to my comment, your repost also has some editing artifacts around the bird.

    Thanks for the comments.
As this site is first and foremost to me, educational, I thought I would post the original
out of camera RAW converted to jpeg with no PP at all.
Making this a high key image was only challenging to get rid of any color caste,
    much easier said than done.
As you can see the OP had a strong blue caste which comes from the low clouds at the coast
and the ocean (It was right over the jetty separating the land from the Pacific Ocean.)
Arash did a great job making this White! I had a harder time and it is hard if you have
    ever tried.
Raymond, I see no artifacts, this was not a big crop by D800 standards and no sharpening
was really involved. As you can see the Raw image was very sharp.
It was just a matter of making it white/white and still retaining the exposure of the bird which
    I think was pretty good.
A nice exercise if you are so inclined.
    Thanks again

    Terrific shot.
I really like the flight pose, love the high key, and I like the comp on your repost.
    Well done.
