    Default Red Billed Hornbill

I haven't posted in avian in a while (though I still have more puffin shots). This one was from my trip to Namibia and South Africa in August. Taken during the coffee break in the morning game drive in the Timbavati Game Reserve, South Africa. A few hornbills waited near our stop at the watering hole for the ranger to toss them some crumbs from the morning rusks.

HH while lying on the ground, very slight crop, levels, curves, selective color adjustments and sharpened in CS5.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Very nice portrait of this hornbill, Rachel, and you really brought us into his world by getting so low. Good job on the exposure. I might try a little bit more sharpening.

Cool looking bird. Nice low angle and good exposure. I am a little distracted by the stick on the ground in the front of the bird and the oof area under your signature, easy fix if you choose to change them. Agree that another round of sharpening may be needed. Overall great capture!

Great bird and nice low angle Rachel. It does look a tad soft so maybe some more sharpening could help, although it can also hurt! I might use the dodge tool to lighten the dark BG elements in the URC.

Thanks Melissa, Nick and Dan. Here's a repost with a bit more sharpening.

Neat bird, and the reddish bill looks great against all those browns. Way to go to get down low! I get the impression the image may need some CW rotation.

Hi Rachel, The light looks nice and soft - overcast? Busy characters around food, and I like the angled pose. Good detail all round on the HB, and your repost looks good. I would try a version with a touch more contrast.

Thanks Jamie, Phil, Daniel and Stuart. Yes, Stuart it was slightly overcast and we were under the trees by the waterhole. I'll take a look at the rotation and contrast suggestions, As always, they are much appreciated.

Very cool bird, Rachel, nice angle, I also think a tad of contrast would make it pop a bit more.
