I was looking back at some previous sets of photos, and found this one from January of 2010 at the Venice Rookery. The male is passing building material down to the female to add to the new home. I guess you could say they have a "stick built" home, just like mine, as my home builder referred to it. Just for the record, the female accepted the stick (they don't always).
Canon 7D, ISO 800, 500 mm f/4L IS, f/9 @ 1/1250 sec., exposure bias 0 EV. PP in LR 4.2. Slight crop off the right and top for composition; added 1/3 EV in post; moderate sharpening, clarity, and NR; and +29 shadows slider to add under wing detail.
Nice catch of the "hand off" Dennis. You did well to keep other distracting background elements out of the frame. Good exposure and detail on the birds. The composition is a bit static for me - mainly due to the square crop. And the lower foot could use a bit more room so we can't imagine it as being cut off. I would try some alternative crops if you have room.
Recropped and added canvas at the left, for a more panoramic look. I didn't have any more room at the bottom, and I don't think extending the canvas at the bottom would help.
Improvement?
