    Default Giraffe Mimic

Stepping back from the Kgalagadi for a moment...to Mana Pools.

This was taken in late afternoon light, on foot (don't try this without responsible guides).
I had to bring back some shadow detail as the bull was standing right in the shade of the tree. The dynamic range of the new Nikon sensors is a delight.

    Techs:
    Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 200mm
    f8.0 @ 1/400 SS @ ISO-640
About 90% of full frame, shot in portrait orientation

Though somehow not as elegant as a giraffe . Another great image of this unusual behavior and this ellie certainly seems to have mastered it. I liked the other angle better but this does really emphasize the behavior and the stretch. Shadow recovery looks fine to me.

    Rachel

Morkel, a very nice capture of interesting behavior. I love the wrinkles, and the balancing with the tail and the outstretched leg! The shadow detail looks great. There appears to be a large splotch of lighter-colored skin on the back behind the head. Is that an unusual condition?

    Hi Morkel,
like the behavior shot in a nice setting of the Mana Pools.
Lightening of the ellie , no problem. Low perspective is just great, love this kind of view. The bigger the animal , the better !!!!

    Well done , Morkel !!!

A very different but unique image. Just when we think we know the animal, they do something out of the ordiary, to us! It shows how little we know about the creation. If only we could live with them and be invisible. I think you have a well captured image here. Nice job on the shadows and highlights. The warm light gives a big boost in my opinion. Just fine all the way around. I like your almost full frame too.
